subnetwork

An IP network in which a portion of the IP address is identical across all the devices connected to the subnetwork. A subnetwork is usually separated from other networks by a router or firewall. A trusted subnetwork contains hosts and routers that trust each other not to attack each other's security and trust that the underlying communications channel (e.g., an Ethernet) isn't being attacked.
