Internet Tax Freedom Act of 1998.

A law passed by the U.S. Congress that placed a three-year moratorium on new taxes on Internet access fees and prohibited multiple and discriminatory taxes on electronic commerce. The Internet appears likely to drive a major simplification of the sales tax laws which vary greatly between different states and local governments across the country. The act also set up the Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce
